Basic Yoga Poses for weight loss

Do yoga and its poses help in weight loss? The answer is yes as yoga is a combination of physical and breathing exercises couple with meditation. Now the next question is what is weight gain? Weight gain is defined as the inability to use the calorie intake by the metabolism of our body thereby converting the excess calories in fat. Now yoga poses can increase the rate of metabolism which in turn burns more calories than it normally does. Apart from weight loss, yoga provides an opportunity to meditate.

Pranayama yoga for weight loss:
Pranayama is a set of breathing exercises which gives a positive impact in reducing weight. There are basically four types viz. Bahstrika pranayama, Kapalabhati pranayama, Agnisar kriya and Ujjayi pranayama, but the most effective is Kapalabhati pranayama. This pranyama involves exhaling air forcefully so your belly is drawn in and then inhaling passively. One should perform this for 5 minutes i.e. at the rate of around 50 to 60 inhales/exhales per minute every morning in empty stomach.

Yoga Asanas for weight loss
Paschimottanasana (Bending forward)
In this asana the posterior portion of the whole body from the head to heels is fully stretched.
First sit with your legs stretched in front of you. Then move your hands forward and slowly bend towards your legs. Try to touch your feet without bending the knees. Breathe out and return to normal position. Repeats this 6- 8 times.
Chakra Padasana (Leg Rotation)
First lie down flat on your back and extend one leg up in the air at a 90 degree angle. Note that the other leg should be flat on the floor. Move the leg which is in the air gradually clockwise 10 to 12 times and the anticlockwise. Keep the body still when you are rotating your leg. Once completed apply the same procedure for the other leg.
Dhanura Asana (Bow shaped posture)
Lie down flat on your stomach and stretch out both the arms backwards. Now bend you knees and try to reach back so that you can hold the tops of your feet. Pull your shoulder blades back as much as you can. Now remain in this position for 4-5 minutes. Release and repeat this process 8 to 10 times.
The above postures are basic and one can go for the advanced one for more weight loss once you master them. These postures not only keep your body fit and slim, but also keep your mind free of stress. Doing these regularly will effectively help in reducing weight loss.
